Most pages answering this question are written by whoever wants your subscription. This one is written by a company that pays Unusual Whales every month — so here is the version with the conflict declared up front.
They're not really the same product. Unusual Whales sells you the data. We give away the levels and charge for the room where they get traded. If you want the raw options tape to interpret yourself, they're the better buy. If you want to know where dealer hedging flips on a ticker, that's free here and always will be.
Worth saying plainly, because a comparison that pretends the other product has no strengths isn't a comparison.
They also have a real free tier — worth knowing, since a lot of "alternative" pages don't mention it. The catch is that free accounts get data on roughly a 15-minute delay, which is fine for learning and not fine for trading. Their paid plan sits around $50/month at the time of writing, with a higher tier near $99. Check their pricing page rather than trusting a number on somebody else's site.
We're not trying to be a cheaper data terminal. The two things we do that they don't:
Zero-gamma flip, call wall, put wall and max pain for any US optionable ticker. No signup, no email, no API key — type a ticker and it renders. Most tools calling themselves free in this category want an account first.
708 decisive trades, 544 wins, 164 losses — 76.8%, with every loss printed next to every win. A data platform doesn't take positions, so it can't be judged this way. We can, and the log is public.

The reason these aren't straight substitutes is worth understanding on its own.
Options flow is what's being traded right now — which contracts, what size, at the bid or the ask. It tells you what just happened and who was in a hurry.
Dealer gamma is what the people on the other side of those trades are then forced to do to stay hedged. Above the zero-gamma flip that hedging works against the move and damps it; below, it works with the move and amplifies it. It tells you how the tape is likely to behave around a level.
Flow without positioning is a list of prints. Positioning without flow is a map with nothing moving on it. If you're going to have one for free, the map is the one that changes how you read every chart — which is why it's the part we give away. The mechanics are here: what dealer gamma exposure is.
Partly, depending what you use it for. They have their own free tier, though it's delayed by around 15 minutes. If you specifically want dealer positioning — flip, call wall, put wall, max pain — our gamma map is free with no account. If you need the full real-time tape, dark pool prints or congressional data, there's no free substitute for a paid platform, ours included.
Roughly $50/month for premium at the time of writing, about $99 for the higher Retail Pro tier, plus a usable free tier on delayed data. Pricing moves — check their own pricing page.
Breadth. Real-time flow across the whole market, dark pool, congressional trading, historical data, an API and a Discord bot. If you want raw data and intend to interpret it yourself, that's exactly what they're built for.
Not really, and we're a paying customer of theirs. They sell data. We give away the gamma levels and charge for a room where trades get called with a public record. Plenty of people use both.
There isn't a signup or an email gate — you can use the gamma map forever without giving us anything. The honest catch is that free covers levels and structure, not real-time flow. If you want live called trades that's the paid side, and you can judge it against the public log before paying.
Zero-gamma flip, call wall, put wall and max pain for any ticker. No account, no email, no card — and no reason to take our word for any of it.
